Sculpt, Smooth, and Glow

About Sculptra at the MODERN

Volume loss occurs during the natural aging process, particularly in the face, as the cheeks tend to become hollow and flat. Plastic surgeon Dr. Jules Walters and his team utilize Sculptra Aesthetic, a poly-L-lactic acid injectable dermal filler, which enables fuller and longer-lasting volume in the mid-face. In addition to increasing mid-face volume, Sculptra can reduce the appearance of fine to deep wrinkles and lines, such as the nasolabial folds (sometimes referred to as laugh or smile lines) that extend from the edges of the nose to the outer corners of the lips.

At the MODERN, we use Sculptra to help patients in New Orleans and Metairie subtly rebuild structure and volume in areas like the cheeks, soften folds, and firm the skin over time. Our aesthetic specialists deliver these treatments with intention—no overfilled look, no rushed results—just smooth, balanced volume that evolves naturally. Schedule a consultation at the MODERN Plastic Surgery & Medspa in New Orleans, LA, to explore the benefits of this treatment.

Volume That Feels Like You

What is Sculptra?

Sculptra is a poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) injectable that works by stimulating collagen growth in the deeper layers of your skin. Rather than filling lines with gel, it activates the skin’s regenerative processes—leading to firmer, fuller skin that still looks and moves naturally.

With a unique gel formula approved by the FDA, Sculptra promotes natural collagen production in your body, so even after you stop getting injections, your complexion should be stronger and healthier than before the treatment.

It’s ideal for treating age-related volume loss in the cheeks, temples, jawline, and nasolabial folds. And because it builds structure slowly, it’s perfect for patients who want subtle, authentic results without an obvious "I had something done" look.

Reasons a Plastic Surgeon May Tell You "No"

February 2023

𝘁𝗵𝗲 M O D E R N 𝗠𝗶𝗻𝘂𝘁𝗲 In this week’s episode, Dr. Walters discusses the reasons a plastic surgeon may tell you no for a certain procedure. It’s sometimes good to go on more than one consultation and find a surgeon that you’re comfortable with. However, Dr. Walters wants to emphasize that if there is a consistent theme of doctors telling you that a procedure you want isn’t what’s best— it is wise to heed those warnings! Ozempic face explanation by Dr. Jules Walters

What is Ozempic Face?

February 2023

𝘁𝗵𝗲 M O D E R N 𝗠𝗶𝗻𝘂𝘁𝗲 In this week’s episode, Dr. Walters discusses facial aging, specifically in regard to rapid weight loss from the popular drugs such as Ozempic and Wegovy. These drugs help slow down gastric emptying. Food stays in our stomachs longer which helps us stay full longer and, in turn, lose weight. Some patients have experienced significant weight loss thanks to these drugs. While losing weight rapidly may seem like a positive side effect on the surface, it can lead to negative side effects including loose skin. As we age, we lose volume in our faces naturally. Rapid weight loss can speed up the facial aging process and cause us to look gaunt. Depending on your starting point, Dr. Walters has different options for remedying premature facial aging due to rapid weight loss. He can inject hyaluronic acid fillers or transfer fat to the face to add volume. Sometimes, a combination of the two with a face and neck lift is necessary to achieve the youthful look desired. Dr. Walters can help you decide which option is best for you to achieve your desired look in a consultation. If you have questions, feel free to send us a message.

Choosing an Injector - Lip Filler Complications

February 2023

𝘁𝗵𝗲 M O D E R N 𝗠𝗶𝗻𝘂𝘁𝗲 In this week’s episode, Dr. Walters discusses common complaints he hears from lip filler patients who have been over-filled elsewhere. Luckily, most negative issues we see with lip filler are reversible. However, over filling can lead to your lips stretching out so much to the point where if we need to dissolve them later they can, in fact, appear more aged because the tissues have been expanded so much. It is so important to do your research when choosing an injector to hopefully avoid irreversible complications. In your consultation, Dr. Walters will help you determine which amount of filler is best for you based on the result you wish to achieve! #themodern #modernizingbeauty #drjuleswalters #themoderndifference #plasticsurgeon #metairiesurgeon #metairieplasticsurgery #louisianasurgeon

The Injector vs. the Filler

February 2023

𝘁𝗵𝗲 M O D E R N 𝗠𝗶𝗻𝘂𝘁𝗲 In this week’s episode, Dr. Walters discusses how the injector you choose is more important than which product is being injected. In your consultation, Dr. Walters will help you determine which product is best for you based on the end result you wish to achieve. This may not always be the product you had in mind. REMEMBER: Don’t choose your injector based only on which products they use. Choose your injector based on who is the most capable to give you the end result you are looking for. #themodern #modernizingbeauty #drjuleswalters #themoderndifference #plasticsurgeon #metairiesurgeon #metairieplasticsurgery #louisianasurgeon #louisianaplasticsurgery

What is a Sculptra Treatment Like?

Following your consultation to develop your unique treatment plan, you will receive your injections in one of our procedure rooms. Your injector may use a local anesthetic or numbing cream prior to sterilizing and marking the injection sites.

As soon as you are prepared, your provider will inject Sculptra into the deeper skin layers at the chosen areas of the face. For longer-lasting results, your injector will perform a series of four treatments, each administered at MODERN Plastic Surgery & Medspa approximately 3 weeks apart.

Ideal Candidates

Sculptra Aesthetic is ideal for individuals seeking to enhance their mid-face contour without the need for implants or surgery.

Sculptra Recovery

Following your appointment, you may experience mild to moderate swelling, redness, bruising, or tenderness at the injection sites, which should resolve on their own within several days.

To encourage healing, you may apply a cold compress to the injected areas. You should limit UV exposure after your appointment and always use sunscreen. You may notice clear improvements immediately following your injections, with final results typically visible after a few months, as the increased collagen production improves the appearance of your skin. If you have Sculptra performed in a series over 3 to 4 months, your results may be visible for up to two years.

Long-Term Support, On Your Terms

Sculptra Results

Results begin to appear gradually as your body builds new collagen—usually within 4–6 weeks. Maximum improvement is visible by 3–4 months, with effects that can last up to two years or longer.

Because Sculptra enhances your skin’s structure over time, results look incredibly natural—never stiff or swollen. With maintenance, you can keep that refreshed, lifted look going strong year after year.
