Do I Need to Lose Weight Before a Mommy Makeover?
As long as you fall within the safe BMI range for elective surgery (ideally between 18.5 and 30), you do not need to be a certain weight to get a mommy makeover. Any major weight fluctuations after your surgery may compromise your results.
Can I Have Kids After a Mommy Makeover?

Your Phone Consultation: You will start with a phone consultation with our patient care coordinator to help you get the most out of your in-person mommy makeover consultation with Dr. Walters. Your In-Person Consultation: You will meet with both Dr. Walters and our patient care coordinator in our beautiful office space for your thorough in-person consult. Follow these tips to prepare your body, space, and mind for your transformation:
Enlist childcare help: You will not be able to lift anything over 15 pounds, including your children and pets, for the first few weeks.
Quit nicotine and alcohol: Avoiding these substances for several weeks before and after your surgery will optimize your body’s ability to heal and lower your risk of complications.
Set up your sleeping space: You will need to sleep in a reclined position for the first couple of weeks. Make sure you have a recliner or plenty of pillows on hand.
Eat a healthy diet and stay active: Giving your body plenty of nutrients and encouraging healthy circulation will make bouncing back after surgery that much easier.
How Is a Mommy Makeover Performed?
Mommy makeovers typically take 3 to 6 hours, depending on the complexity of the procedure. Dr. Walters performs the surgery while you are comfortably asleep under general anesthesia, most often at the AAAHC-accredited Houma Outpatient Surgery Center. Specific procedure steps vary depending on the procedures included, but Dr. Walters always prioritizes creating natural-looking results with the most inconspicuous scarring possible. Most mommy makeovers Dr. Walters performs are outpatient procedures, meaning you can go home the same day after your surgery is complete.
How Long Is Mommy Makeover Recovery?
Most people return to a somewhat normal routine within several weeks, typically returning to desk work after 2 to 3 weeks. You will need to avoid strenuous exercise for at least 2 months, although you can begin taking easy walks as soon as you feel up to it.
Mommy makeovers typically affect large areas of the body, so recovering from this surgery is a gradual process. Moving around and walking upright will be difficult the first week or so as it will take your body time to adjust to your tighter new abdominal skin and muscles. We will provide you with a post-surgical compression garment to minimize swelling and encourage smooth contours.
